Identification Papers & Solo Speech

Hi folks!
Students have made their provincial licenses for our pretend country. To better connect our novel study with real-life, students are responsible to show their “identification papers” at any given time between now and 3pm Friday. I WOULD LOVE for you to help me with this! If you see any student from our class (even after school hours), ask them for their identification papers. Hopefully they’ll present it to you! I have the school staff doing the same. Feel free to let me know anyone you caught with or without them and we will share in class. This is to mimic the identification papers during WWII and government rule making. The students are really into it! YAY!
Also, for any student taking part in solo speech this year – forms are due by Friday. The actual performance isn’t until March.

Hi folks!
It’s already the end of January! I figured I’d send a few little updates about what we are up to in class.
Robichaud-nada: Our class has been learning about government responsibilities/rule making/NB/habitats/animals of NB (grade 3) and topography/Canada/natural resources/world (grade 4) through the creation of our new “country” Robichaud-nada. This is also a cross-curricular unit whereas many outcomes are reached in personal wellness, social studies, reading, writing etc. We learned about federal government then last week provincial governments with the creation of class groups into Robichaud-nada’s provinces: Elkyma, Nada, Roba Island and McAwekcheck. This week we will be learning about municipal governments. Take a peek at our teacher page for a few pictures of our cities, towns, provincial flags and country’s flag. Keep an eye later this week for their licenses in their homework folders.
Grade 3 Math – Grade 3 students are mastering 2 digit plus 2 digit addition and moving on to 3 digits. After that we will start concentrating on subtraction with borrowing. We have been working on increasing the recall/speed of their addition skills and will be moving on towards their subtraction skills. Extra practice for some at home may be helpful!
Grade 4 Math – Grade 4 students have mastered multiplication and are ready to move on to simple division. After that we will start concentrating on long multiplication and long division. To better help with this, grade 4 students have been increasing their multiplication skills. They were tested on x1 and x2. This week will be x3 and x5. Extra practice for some at home may be helpful!

English – We are working on a read aloud of Lois Lowry’s novel “Number the Stars”. Students have been learning about Annemarie and her friend Ellen. It is based in Denmark during the second world war. It ties in nicely with our French unit of government, geography and rule making.
Science – Science is also tied into our Robichaud-nada. Students have problem solved to find solution to structure designs. We will continue with various city-building experiments like bridge building, static electricity people and airports.
