Our Grade 4 students turned simple strips of construction paper into personal sculptures that tell a story about who they are!
Each colour and shape represented a different fact about the student. For example, a student who likes sports created an orange arch, while a student who was born outside of New Brunswick added a black zigzag. Students followed the secret code to bend, fold, curl, twist and shape their paper before arranging the pieces into their own unique 3-D sculpture.
The best part? At first glance, they simply look like colourful pieces of art—but when you know the code, you can “read” each sculpture and discover more about the artist!
This activity was a fun way to combine art, creativity, following directions, fine-motor skills and community building, while celebrating all the similarities and differences that make our classroom special.
Our finished pieces are now proudly displayed under our “All About Us – Read our sculptures to learn more about us” display!
